Newport

Fields Road, Newport This is the house in Newport where we grew up – 36 Fields Road.  Bernard bought it without having seen inside.  He simply asked the estate agent how big the front room was, said “Good, the piano will fit!” and bought it!

A big Victorian semi-detached house, it was a wonderful place to grow up with the garden at the back just fitting a badminton court (although the apple tree tended to get in the way) .  In front, the grounds of the Civic Centre provided ample space to ride bikes, climb trees and generally run about.

Nanna and Grampa, Uncle David and Auntie Audrey  lived within easy walking distance and the house seemed to be a central meeting place for many friends and relations.

With many happy memories, it was (and perhaps always will be) – home.
